About
The Acute Medicine Summer School is an intensive, multidisciplinary programme designed to bridge clinical practice with cutting-edge biomedical science. Moving beyond traditional organ-based approaches, the course focuses on acute illness as a dynamic, whole-body process shaped by host response biology. Participants will explore the mechanisms underlying conditions such as sepsis, respiratory failure, and shock, integrating physiology, immunology, and translational research with real-world clinical decision-making.
Delivered by an international faculty of clinicians and scientists, the programme combines lectures, practical demonstrations, and interactive workshops to provide a comprehensive learning experience across training levels. The Summer School aims to equip participants with a systems-level understanding of acute medicine, while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and engagement with emerging precision medicine approaches in acute medicine.
From Oxygen to Host Response Biology: Rethinking Acute Medicine
An intensive international summer school integrating clinical practice with cutting-edge science, equipping participants to understand, stratify, and manage acute illness in the era of precision medicine.
Course aim
Concept and educational philosophy
This accredited summer school is designed for BSc, MSc, MD, PhD and postdoctoral participants. Rather than organizing learning around traditional organ-based silos, the program takes a host response and systems medicine perspective. Clinical decision-making, pathophysiology, and translational science are interwoven to help participants understand acute illness as a dynamic, whole-body process.
