PhD直招介绍
The Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation (MSK) research group aims to advance the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders across diverse populations, including (elite) athletes, individuals with spinal pain, people with osteoarthritis, and frail older adults. Its applied and translational research particularly focuses on improving the understanding of neuromuscular and proprioceptive control of posture and movement, as well as the role of psychosocial and lifestyle factors in musculoskeletal pain across various domains, such as rheumatology, traumatology, orthopedics, and sports injuries. Project The PhD projects are embedded within an FWO-TBM funded research project entitled “The added value of MULTImodal biopsychosocial telePREhabilitation for individuals undergoing lower limb arthroPlasty: the MULTIPREP trial.” The TBM programme aims, in the long term, to contribute to the implementation of (new) therapies, diagnostic techniques, and preventive methods that—due to a lack of industrial interest—would not reach patients without governmental funding. The abstract of the funded project is provided below: Lower limb joint arthroplasties (TJA) are among the most frequently performed elective surgeries (>50,000/year in Belgium). Unfortunately, 13–30% of patients develop moderate to severe persistent pain, which negatively impacts quality of life and imposes a high socio-economic burden. Moreover, even among those with favorable outcomes, the expected (re)uptake of physical activity often fails to occur, highlighting that current (pre)rehabilitation strategies do not effectively promote physical activity. Nevertheless, sufficient physical activity is essential to optimize surgical recovery and achieve broader health and socio-economic benefits. Therefore, a shift in TJA care is warranted, with a specific focus on improving psychosocial mediators of recovery and facilitating a behavioral transition towards a more active lifestyle. Based on the proof-of-concept established in our pilot trial and supported by the literature, we propose a multimodal biopsychosocial teleprehabilitation intervention. This approach offers optimal timing and a comprehensive design to achieve its intended goals, namely improved functional recovery following TJA, enhanced general health, and a reduced socio-economic burden. The scientific objectives are to determine whether: multimodal biopsychosocial teleprehabilitation in addition to treatment as usual (TAU) is more effective than TAU alone in improving clinical outcomes at 12 months post-TJA; and multimodal biopsychosocial teleprehabilitation + TAU is cost-effective compared to TAU alone. P: 240 patients undergoing TJA I: Multimodal biopsychosocial teleprehabilitation ((pain science) education, physical activity promotion, and stress management guided by motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy principles) + TAU C: TAU O: Primary outcomes: pain and functioning; Secondary outcomes: physical activity levels, cognitive-emotional outcomes, joint awareness, patient satisfaction, performance-based outcomes, quality of life; Tertiary outcomes: healthcare utilization, productivity loss KU Leuven strives for an inclusive, respectful and socially safe environment. We embrace diversity among individuals and groups as an asset. Open dialogue and differences in perspective are essential for an ambitious research and educational environment. In our commitment to equal opportunity, we recognize the consequences of historical inequalities. We do not accept any form of discrimination based on, but not limited to, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, ethnic or national background, skin colour, religious and philosophical diversity, neurodivergence, employment disability, health, or socioeconomic status.
