Storrs, CT revolves around UConn, and the campus encompasses a large expanse of woods and trees. The town's population is dominated by the UConn faculty, staff, and students. The area is pretty, but the town is the definition of “rural,” with not much in the way of nightlife. The surrounding areas of Mansfield and Willimantic offer more options to pick up essential amenities, but neither city is exactly hopping (Mansfield’s only movie theatre, for instance, is a drive-in). Many students make frequent weekend trips to Boston and New York, and Hartford is only a half-hour drive from campus. Otherwise, students say you’ll most likely be living in the UConn bubble during the weekends, attending arts or sports events, going to a party, or hanging with friends in the dorms.

The University of Connecticut system includes a main campus in Storrs, separate Schools of Law and Social Work in Hartford, five regional campuses throughout the state, a Graduate Business Learning Center in downtown Hartford, and Schools of Medicine and Dentistry at the UConn Health Center in Farmington. The campus is situated between North Eagleville and South Eagleville Roads, with Storrs Road cutting through the from north to south. The UConn 2000 and 21st Century programs have committed 2 billion dollars to spend on new facilities and expansion in the coming years. As a result, everything seems to be in a constant state of construction. Students do generally speak the praises of UConn's facilities. The student union building is brand-new and offers a great hang-out space. The athletic facilities are top notch, including an entire climbing gym with various sizes of walls, a skydiving team (for real), and a moon bounce (apparently!)

Freshmen are usually assigned to the North, Northwest, or Towers dorms in double or triple rooms. Northwest and Towers are much newer, with nicer furniture and more space, while North is still the most run-down of the bunch. Upperclassmen aren't guaranteed housing, and in recent years, it seems to have been nearly impossible for them to find accommodations. There is a severe housing crunch at UConn, though most students will tell you it all ends up working out alright.

Sports at UConn are huge. With championship Division I teams in multiple sports, UConn is a perennial Big East contender. Gampel Pavilion, the dome which hosts the basketball games, booms and reverberates during the season, and students come out in droves to cheer on the Huskies. UConn's soccer team ranks near the top in the field. The UConn football team was recently given a new home, at the enormous Rentschler Field. In addition to varsity sports, UConn has an endless roster of club and intramural sports (including paintball and roller hockey!)
