院校简介
To expand current knowledge of the structural bases of protein and nucleic acid functions, with special regard to the regulation of gene expression of enzymatic activities, respiratory proteins and molecules of the immune response in animals and plants; to study the regulatory mechanisms of mitosis, cell cycle and cell differentiation. DESCRIPTION Communication is essential for those institutions, such as the Institute of Molecular Biology and Pathology of CNR (IBPM-CNR), faced with the need to highlight the national and international institutions' possible points of convergence and synergy in order to create new opportunities for the development of innovative and competitive projects at the European level. This brief introduction summarizes the past milestones of the Institute, from inception to present times, summarizing the skills and potential of its four main laboratories. The Institute of Molecular Biology and Pathology (IBPM) was born from the merger of three CNR Research Centres within the "Sapienza" University of Rome, the Centre for Molecular Biology Studies (CSBM), founded by Prof. Alessandro Rossi Fanelli in 1965, The Centre for Evolutionary Genetics Studies (CSGE) that began its activities in 1969 under the direction of Prof. Giuseppe Montalenti and the Centre for Studies on Nucleic Acids (CSAN), founded in 1970 by Prof. Giorgio Tecce who has been its ispirational Director for over twenty years. After the merger, a group of Researchers dedicated to translational research joined the IBPM-CNR from the Institute of Biomedical Technology (ITBM). The Institute's main task is to address issues in biology with a multidisciplinary approach based on theoretical and experimental biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and molecular pathology. The initiative, launched in 2003, has been ahead of the development of modern biology, characterized by a growing interdisciplinary, thematic and methodological flexibility. Presently, the scientific network of the IBPM-CNR includes four research laboratories, five CNR Main Research Projects, and an Administrative Section. The main research topics of the Institute can be summarized as follows: a) Study of the mechanisms of control of gene expression in animals and plants. b) Multidisciplinary study of molecular and cellular basis of cancer: development of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, nanoparticles and new strategies for targeted therapy of human tumors. c) Identification of the tissue-specific role of non-coding RNAs in development and cell differentiation and identification of methods for tissue-specific targeting. d) Structural biology: structure and function, dynamics and recognition in proteins. In recent years, new scenarios have opened for "Modern Biology" allowing it to face major challenges in knowledge with a broad and deep impact not only within Human Health, but also in the areas of Food, Environment, Energy and Nanotechnology. Our Institute pursues the study of biological phenomena with multidisciplinary approaches and translational objectives. Researchers working in the Institute are aware that knowledge of the basic mechanisms of life is not only a value in itself, but that it is also endowed with several applications in biotechnology and biomedicine. We are guided by the principle that, in order to progress and be competitive, it is essential to implement and enhance basic research, which is the foundation for applied research and technological innovation.
