FAU is located in Erlangen and Nuremberg, which lies 450 km to the south of the capital city, Berlin, and Munich and Frankfurt are both approximately 200 km away. Erlangen and Nuremberg are bike-friendly cities with a large network of bicycle lanes. Moreover, public transports are well served in the region of Erlangen and Nuremberg.

The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg has no housing agency for degree-seeking students. Students have to find accommodation on his/her own, who are encouraged to apply in parallel to different residences in Erlangen and Nürnberg areas. A number of public student residences owned by the university are reserved for exchange programme students (e.g. Erasmus, direct exchange etc.).
