The laboratory, headed by Prof. Armin Gölzhäuser, is looking for a highly motivated student to work on the project “Dipolar Molecular Rotors in SURMOFs”, which belongs to a new Priority Programme entitled “Cooridnation Networks: Building Blocks for Functional Systems” (SPP 1928) funded by German Research Foundation (DFG). The project proposes to use surface mounted metal-organic frameworks (SURMOFs) as the molecular frameworks that provide a modular architecture to arrange the dipolar rotors and to control their intermolecular distances on the dimensions essential to tailor mutual dipole-dipole interactions and thereby spontaneous ordering. The goal of this project is to produce a prototype thin film device using this new technological platform to modulate light. This project requires close collaborations with the Institute of Organic Chemistry at University of Kiel and the Institute of Microstructure Technology of KIT.
