Nyein lab thrusts to develop next-generation diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. Our research is based upon emerging technologies in materials, bioengineering, and electronics to achieve novel methods for biomarkers detection and targeted treatments. We leverage microfluidics and device engineering to bring devices compatible with wearable, implantable, and POC applications to realize a more personalized and preventive care system.

Dr. Hnin Y. Y. Nyein
Dr. Hnin Y. Y. Nyein will be joining HKUST Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering in June 2022. She is currently finishing her postdoctoral study at Soh’s lab in the Department of Radiology at the Stanford University. Dr. Nyein obtained her BSc from UC Berkeley in 2014 as a top student in Materials Science and Engineering. She then continued her PhD study under supervision of Prof. Ali Javey at UC Berkeley as a NSF graduate research fellow. Since then, she has first/co-authored several papers in journals such as Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Communications, Science Advances, PNAS, Advanced Materials, ACS Nano, etc. She is a recipient of MIT Technology Review Innovators under 35 Asia Pacific 2021. Her research explores materials and DNA technology and integrates into devices to detect biosignals in complex biofluid media by translating biochemical, electrochemical information into meaningful electrical/optical signals.
