PhD直招介绍
PROJECT REFERENCE NUMBER: GSBS-2021-110 This PhD seeks to understand the extent of such a (temporary) shift in care roles within the household and the longer-term impacts on the gendered organisation of work and family life. The student will undertake a sequential mixed methods study collecting data through secondary data analysis, in-depth qualitative interviews, and a focus group, with heterosexual couple households in Scotland. The research will also consider how policy measures can support gendered shifts in care roles and facilitate sustained change. While the precise research questions will be developed during the first year of the PhD, it is envisaged that the student will: • Interrogate (from different perspectives within the household) how the gendered balance of care work has shifted since COVID-19. • Explore in which households change has occurred, and the family-specific and wider institutional factors underpinning and informing such change. • Gather (from different perspectives) qualitative data as to how people ‘feel’ about such changes and understand the extent to which they are ‘desirable’. • Ascertain how policy and legislation might facilitate ‘deeper’ shifts in attitudes to support longer-term changes in the gendered distribution of care work. Potential applicants are asked to submit a short proposal (max 1,000 words) detailing their interest, background and how they might approach this research topic. Previous experience of qualitative research methodology is desirable.
