PhD Positions on Advanced Materials and Manufacturing University of Nebraska–Lincoln, USA Fully funded Ph.D. Research Assistant positions are available in the experimental research of materials (metals or ceramics) or advanced manufacturing (including laser processing), starting in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027. RESEARCH FOCUS Compositionally Complex Ceramics (CCCs) Advanced Materials for Extreme Environments Laser-Based Advanced Manufacturing Additive Manufacturing and Materials Processing Nuclear Materials and Energy Applications High-Temperature Materials and Coatings OUR RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT Students will join an active, interdisciplinary, and collaborative research group in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at UNL. We collaborate with: U.S. National Laboratories, Industrial Partners, Leading Universities Worldwide. Students have access to world-class materials processing, characterization, and testing facilities through both the Cui Research Group and the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience (NCMN). QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Lasers, Nuclear Engineering, or closely related disciplines. Applicants with research experience, publications, or strong experimental/computational skills are particularly encouraged to apply.

Prof. Bai Cui
THE ADVISOR Prof. Bai Cui is a Fellow of The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) and an internationally recognized leader in compositionally complex ceramics and advanced manufacturing. His research has been recognized with an R&D 100 Award. He received his Ph.D. from Imperial College London and undergraduate degrees from Tsinghua University.
