What we offer
Terms and conditions
We offer initially a 3 month contract at Leiden University, with at the end a go/no-go evaluation for the full PhD period. After that 2 years will be spent at EU DG JRC in Sevilla under a JRC contract, and the remainder will be spent at Leiden University under a Leiden contract. The sum of contracts will be 4 years.
The conditions for the 2 years at Leiden University are:
A salary ranging from € 3.059,- gross per month in year 1 to € 3.881,- gross per month in year 4 following pay scale P of the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities. based on a full-time position. (38 hours), following pay scale P in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
Holiday allowance (8%) and an end-of-year bonus (8.3%)

Terms and conditions for the 2 years at JRC Sevilla are:
Following the Collaborative Doctoral Partnership Agreement with JRC the PhD candidate will have a JRC Grantholder contract with a duration of 24 months (Cat. 20, indicative gross annual salary, 46.000 €).
Prior to the enrolment at JRC, the candidate should have the nationality of a Member State of the EU or a country associated to the Research Framework Programmes or being resident in a EU Member State since at least five years.

The PhD candidate will be embedded for the full period of four years in Leiden University’s Graduate School of Science. The graduate school offers several PhD training courses at three levels: professional courses, skills training and personal effectiveness. In the period the PhD candidate is at EU DG JRC, remote supervision from Leiden supervisors is foreseen, in the same intensity as usual for Leiden PhDs.
