Field of Research
We invite applications for a PhD position in the field of generative modelling, with primary applications in biomedical imaging.
The PhD project will be conducted within the Centre for Biomedical Image Analysis (CBIA( https://cbia.fi.muni.cz/ )) at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University. CBIA provides a multidisciplinary research environment combining computer science, biomedical imaging, and clinical collaboration.
The applicant is expected to be familiar with the image processing methods and to combine them with machine learning approaches. The experience with medical or biomedical image analysis is welcome but not required. The objective of the research is to study, design and develop the various approaches of image synthesis from scarce image data (CT/MRI), both 2D and 3D. In particular, the research will be focused on the synthesis of rare types of brain tumors that are difficult to diagnose.
Possible Research Directions
Generative modelling and latent space understanding in biomedical imaging
Image synthesis of both healthy and tumor-affected human brain
The particular topic will be specified in agreement with the supervisor.
Study Programme
The position is embedded in the four-year doctoral programme in Informatics at Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, delivered in English or Czech.
Doctoral students are expected to:
Conduct independent research under supervision
Publish at international venues
Participate in conferences and research stays

Funding & Employment Conditions
Tuition fee: free of charge
Standard funding package (full-time students):
Basic doctoral scholarship: 18,000 CZK / month
Employment contract (20% FTE): ~7,000 CZK net / month
Publication-performance scholarship: up to 7,000 CZK / month
Active PhD students typically reach ~32,000 CZK net monthly income during the standard study period.
