PhD直招介绍
About the Project This is an exciting PhD opportunity within the College of Technology and Environment (CTE) at London South Bank University (LSBU). The successful candidate will receive a standard stipend (£21,622 p.a. at 2025/26 rates); full home or O/S tuition fees (as applicable); and a research, training, and support grant of up to £5,000 for lab work or £2,000 for ICT over the project. Funding is available for 3 years, starting in September 2026, and the tuition fee waiver includes an extra year for writing up (4 years in total). Project Overview In memory of Dr Gareth Davies, LSBU is supporting a new, fully funded studentship in his field of interest. Gareth was a senior research fellow specialising in sustainable refrigeration, cooling, and heat recovery. He published seminal papers on the modelling of computer cooling systems, heat recovery from IT and electrical infrastructure, as well as transport, industrial, and commercial refrigeration. Gareth was a fantastic scientist, a great communicator and a gentleman. He sadly passed away in 2025, unexpectedly. To honour Gareth’s contribution to engineering, LSBU is launching a studentship in his field of work, to support projects in the following areas of knowledge: State-of-the-art concepts of district heating and cooling networks Investigations of urban heat recovery opportunities and potential re-use of waste heat Sustainable and efficient refrigeration practices in commercial and industrial settings Adaptation to climate change and the future of space cooling Training & Development Opportunities Doctoral students at London South Bank University (LSBU), through the London Doctoral College (LDC( https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/research/research-degrees/lsbu-doctoral-college )), benefit from a rich, structured training environment that supports academic excellence and professional development. All PhD candidates are offered a comprehensive programme of workshops and seminars covering essential research skills, including research design, data analysis, academic writing, ethics, and project management. These sessions aim to support students through every stage of their doctoral journey—from literature review and methodology to thesis completion and viva preparation. Postgraduate researchers can access advanced, discipline-specific training aligned with their research focus. LSBU’s doctoral training environment is designed to build deep expertise in a chosen research area and the broader skills necessary for successful careers in research, industry, and beyond. About the College The College of Technology and Environment (CTE) at London South Bank University (LSBU( https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/ )) is a newly formed academic college, launched in January following the university’s recent reorganisation. Led by Executive Dean Professor Chris Harty, CTE comprises five schools: Architecture & Planning, Construction, Property & Surveying, Engineering & Design, and Computer Science & Digital Technologies. The college fosters a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment that addresses the complex challenges of the built and digital environments. CTE strongly emphasises research, with doctoral students playing a key role in shaping and contributing to the college’s research agenda. CTE prepares students to become future leaders through innovation, industry partnerships, and a commitment to sustainability. With a focus on real-world impact and academic excellence, the college is set to advance LSBU’s vision of delivering applied knowledge that transforms lives and communities, locally and globally. In the research space, the university has five centres, which represent different fields of knowledge, and this project sits within the Energy, Materials and Environment (EME) Research Centre.
