Description
The University of Bristol was founded in 1876 as University College, Bristol. It was the first higher education institution in England to admit women on an equal basis to men.?The university is located in the heart of Bristol, which is one of the UK's five Centres of Cultural Excellence; it was the UK's first Cycling City (in 2008), and is a Fairtrade City (since 2005).?Bristol was the first UK city to be named both European Green Capital (2015) and a UNESCO Learning City (2016).

The University is set in the heart of the city of Bristol. Bristol has excellent road links. The M4 and M5 put both London and Birmingham within a two-hour drive. Bristol was recently voted one of the UK's five Centres of Cultural Excellence. Bristol is designated one of six Science Cities in the UK. Bristol became the UK's first Cycling City in 2008. Bristol has been a Fairtrade city since 2005. The University’s bus service connects Stoke Bishop halls of residence to the University campus.

There is a wide range of catered and self-catered accommodation to suit all tastes, from picturesque 18th-century houses to modern well-appointed flats. Most residences are in Stoke Bishop, Clifton or the city centre, which are all within walking distance or a short bus journey from the main campus.

BUCS ranking (2015�C16): 11th Teams in BUCS leagues: 96 Teams in BUCS premier leagues: 15 Intramural Sport Intramural sport is sport played between students at a university or college. Teams are generally made up from halls, societies, or groups of friends. On offer there could be 5-a-side, soccer 6s, 11-a-side football, rugby 7s, badminton and squash leagues. Indoor intramural sports: 3 Indoor intramural sports teams: 18 Outdoor intramural sports: 3 Outdoor intramural sports teams: 98 Social and Recreational Sport This is more casual, requiring no regular commitment.
